The Annual Black Label Hops
Unlike the large hops conglomerates out west, at Midwest Reserve Hops, we spend a lot of time in the field talking with our farmers. Every season, we select the highest quality, most unique hops of that season and feature them under our Black Label.
What makes a Black Label hop?
Black Label hops are selected from all varieties grown in the Midwest. When we select hops for our Black Label Collection, we are looking for hops that exhibit unique qualities due to the unique terrior of the Midwest. As a result, hops featured this year might be different than what is harvested next year due to different growing conditions.
Why do we do Black Label hops?
Within the craft brew movement, a growing number of brewers are starting to realize that terroir matters. The Chinook grown in Michigan is totally different than the Chinook grown in Yakima. We want to record these unique differences and educate brewers on the importance of terroir.
